翻“唱”過PULP的Common People！！！

確切的說，他只負責“說”（誰要sleep with common people like you啊*掀桌*），唱的部分讓給別人來。我已被這人囧得無語了！（其實他很動情地在“說”啊……）本版節奏和原版相似，打上合成器節拍和華麗女聲backing vocal……做好心理準備的同學，猛擊這裡下載試聼。

這張唱片陣容還挺強，以鋼琴為標誌的Ben Folds編曲製作：

除1、4、11外的口白文字都是Shatner寫的。之所以說“感傷”，是因爲他顯然清楚地知道自己早已成了一個笑話，即便如此，他還是大大咧咧拿自己開唰，頗爲高明地賣笑，只是別以爲，他當真稀里糊塗不介意。越發覺得Denny Crane這角色還真是為Shatner量身度造，語調也……是一樣的嘛！Ideal Woman這種差不多是直接聼大胖調情：
I want you to dance whenever you feel it
Up by the bandstand
In the parking lot
Up on the table
Well, maybe the table can go
But I want you to be you

一下子抓住我的，是2的開首（加拿大人在美國？）
I was crossing the snowfields in front of the Capitol Building
It was Christmas and I was alone
Strange city
Strangers for friends
And I was broke
As the carillon sang its song, I dreamt of success
I would be the best
I would make my folks proud
I would be happy
It hasn't happened yet
（這整首都寫得很誠懇，聼完后……為Denny加了很多同情分<-哈？）

全盤唯一無伴奏朗誦的是5，主角是一個愛人溺水而自己幸存下來的男人，我特別喜歡這種描述一個情景的短章：
The water was still and so was she
I dove in with so little breath
In truth I knew
I was too late for death
結尾著實催淚：
You had said don't leave me
And I begged you not to leave me
We did.

所以你看，他居然不是在搞笑的意義上“引用”Common People開場的！

儘管是spoken words專輯，其豐富的音樂性也不可小虧。Ben Folds鍵盤玩的有一手，1、2、8是好例子。不過最出挑的是標題曲，輕巧地反擊了那些嘲諷他一個角色吃一輩子但自己卻更加沒有建樹的人們，採用通心粉西部片那種配樂形式！
